Previously, Chanoud, a rustic village in Rajasthan, India, struggled with the lack of medical facilities; basic healthcare services were an hour’s drive away. Without regional government backing, the Singh family spearheaded an initiative, rallying the community for donations of their time, labour, skills, and funds to construct local medical facilities. A key project was the absence of maternity care, which posed ongoing risks to women and babies. Now the benefits of this successful project go beyond Chanoud, spilling out into neighbouring areas to support all family members. The fully functioning hospital is comprehensively equipped and boasts a fully staffed maternity unit, operating theatre, in-house laboratory, pharmacy, and lodgings for medical personnel. The collective efforts of the community have significantly enhanced the facilities, paving the way for a more promising future.

Donations provide financial resilience allowing the school to plan ahead

Recognising the importance of education, families often had to make sacrifices to ensure their children attend school. Seen as the leading family in the village, the Singh family adopted the Chanoud Government school, generously donating a building to house the new school premises, catering predominantly to children from low socio-economic backgrounds. This co-educational institution, established in 1995, welcomes children from 1st to 10th grade, embracing inclusivity for boys and girls alike. 

Yet, the persistent struggle to secure teachers in this remote locale prompted the family to establish a charitable initiative – the Chanoud Garh Education & Development Society. Addressing the issue of teaching resources, the society now employs local women with a passion for education; often educated women who have returned home to marry and care for family members. This approach supports women in the community, the local economy and offers positive role models to the children. 

All school children receive a free meal which is prepared onsite with provisions being sourced locally. The daily guaranteed meal contributes to the well-being of the children and encourages attendance; as well as supporting the local economy. 

Regular donations from Value Match and other sponsors play a pivotal role in enabling long-term planning initiatives. One-time donations provide much needed help, however regular funding commitments allow for forward planning. 

Value Match’s consistent monthly donation of £1,000 offers much needed financial resilience, allowing the school to uphold their commitment to procuring educational services. In turn, it helps the school attract teaching professionals who are assured of its financial viability. With an expenditure of £50 per month to employ local resources for teaching, being financially secure enables the school to fill vacant positions, offering the children genuine opportunities for a brighter future.
