About Biffa

With over 100 years of expertise, Biffa is an established leader of sustainable waste management in the UK.

Our purpose is to change the way people think about waste and our team of more than 10,000 key workers provide unrivalled end-to-end waste and recycling solutions for thousands of businesses and millions of households each day.
Underpinned by our low carbon collection network, we’re at the forefront of enabling the UK circular economy by continuing to build our plastic recycling capacity, investing in energy recovery and growing the amount of surplus produce we redistribute through Company Shop.

Since 2002 we’ve cut our carbon emissions by 70% and aim to be net zero by 2050. Our long-standing Biffa Award programme and our proud partnership with WasteAid also contribute to major environmental benefits for the UK and beyond.

What if a lesson could lessen waste?

We want to inspire the next generation to take care of the world. That’s why we’ve partnered with hundreds of schools across the UK, teaching kids how to reduce waste and recycle more. It’s all part of our mission to change the way people think about waste.

Educational activities for school children

Our waste education programmes provide answers to the question: “How does waste affect the environment?” They help people recognise which materials can be reused and recycled, and build understanding of the impact of school waste and wider waste production.

Many of our local teams visit schools to educate children on how waste affects the environment and the importance of recycling. We offer support through workshops, fun Wasteater educational resources and activities, and initiatives that engage children in biodiversity, such as Biffa Bees.

Educational Workshops

We are able to offer schools and organisations, educational waste workshops. These workshops cover the impact of waste on the environment and how we can reduce, reuse and recycle more materials, demonstrating that small changes make a big difference to the future.

The Wasteaters

We’re on a mission to help communities across the country reduce, reuse and recycle more — and we’ve enlisted a little help from our wild and wonderful crew of waste-munching monsters: The Wasteaters. These eye-catching characters bring recycling to life in schools and communities, appearing on our educational materials and, if you’re lucky, out and about on our trucks. They’re a fun and engaging way to inspire everyone to think differently about waste.

Biffa Bees: Supporting Schools and Communities

Biffa Bees is a campaign to promote biodiversity by planting wildflower habitats, which are vital for pollinators like bees and hoverflies. These species are in decline due to habitat loss and pesticide use, and creating dedicated spaces helps support their survival.

To support this, Biffa distributes wildflower seed packets to depot locations across the country, which are then shared with local groups including schools, sports teams, and other community organisations.

This enables schools and communities to take part in creating bee-friendly spaces and contributes to a wider network of ‘bee-lines’—habitats such as bee cafes and bee hotels that help pollinators forage, shelter, and thrive.

A sustainable business for the circular economy

We are leading the way in sustainable waste management creating solutions for the UK that enable the circular economy. Our goal is to help businesses, local authorities and communities to reduce waste by redistributing, recycling and recovering more.

Surplus redistribution – helping businesses and communities

Through Company Shop Group (a Biffa company), we can take surplus products (from food to homeware) which may otherwise be classified as waste – and redistribute them for resale at heavily discounted prices, helping families and communities with stretched budgets. With 14 Company Shop stores and 12 Community Shops across the UK, the Group promotes social value by reducing waste and providing access to affordable products while supporting a sustainable future. Simpler recycling

Simpler Recycling will transform recycling in England by standardising waste collection and introducing separate streams for recyclable materials, reducing general waste and increasing recycling overall.
